In honour of the legendary Ozzy Osbourne passing away this week, Double Fine Productions is giving away Brütal Legend for free.
Just weeks after performing at his last concert befittingly at Villa Park, the home of the football team he not only supports, but also the area in which he was born, Ozzy Osbourne passed away at the age of 76 on 22 July 2025.
It was impossible to avoid tributes across social media for the beloved rock star and frontman of Black Sabbath, coming from all over the world.

In the latest tribute, you can claim Brütal Legend for free via Itch.io, but only for 666 minutes at the time of its availability. Of course, as you’re reading this, that time has reduced.
Brütal Legend was released in 2009 for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and starred Jack Black as Eddie Riggs.
“Brütal Legend is an action-adventure that marries visceral action combat with open-world freedom,” reads the synopsis of the game.
“Set in a universe somewhere between Lord of the Rings and Spinal Tap, it’s a fresh take on the action/driving genre, which in this case is full of imitation cover bands, demons intent on enslaving humanity and Heavy metal tunes.”
In Brütal Legend, Birmingham-born Ozzy Osbourne played the character known as “The Guardian”, which is why Double Fine Productions is honouring the rock star by giving the game away for free, for a limited time.
It’s worth noting that this digital version of Brütal Legend is for PC and not for consoles. The recommended system specifications for the game can be found on its dedicated website.
