Master Chief is under new guidance heading into the back end of 2026, as Activision has been granted the keys to the kingdom in a huge Xbox reshuffle.
The famed publisher behind the Call of Duty series will be taking full control of Microsoft's iconic sci-fi shooter series, potentially rebooting the entire franchise.
The move was confirmed by Xbox as part of a wider reset for its gaming business, with Activision building a new team specifically to work on Halo alongside their usual annual CoD release; Halo Studios will continue supporting the existing games and franchise, but Activision gets to tackle what's next.
But while Halo has warmed its feet under the home comforts of Xbox in recent years, The Master Chief Collection eventually switched things up by making its way to PC

Now, more of the Halo games are launching across multiple platforms.
Halo 5: Guardians is finally getting a PC release... ish
Hot off the back of an awesome fan-made project that brought Halo: Combat Evolved to PC, complete with 128-player co-op lobbies, a new PC project for one of the series' best titles is now in the works.
In fact, as Halo 5: Guardians remains the only major mainline Halo game that hasn't received a proper PC release, fans are taking things into their own hands.
A fan-led project known as 'Halo 5 Reforged' is attempting to bring the full experience to PC, including its campaign, multiplayer, Warzone and customisation features.
And if the project manages to deliver on its ambitions, PC players could finally get their hands on one of the last major pieces missing from Microsoft's Halo puzzle.

Created by an entire community, the goal is to bring the entire Halo 5 title to PC, not just the standalone Forge mode, which released on more platforms in 2016..
"Halo 5 Reforged is a community project with one goal: bring the complete Halo 5 experience to PC. The campaign, the multiplayer battles, the scale of Warzone, and a Spartan you can make your own," the website reads.
"We’re building on Halo 5’s PC foundation and bringing the rest of the experience with it. LAN and mod support are long-term goals."
There's no public release date just yet, but another fan project has already managed to get all 15 campaign missions running through the PC version of Halo 5: Forge.
The entire build is set to be launched for free, with the strapline of 'Built by fans for the next fight', and will finally fulfil that 11-year wait.
With Activision now responsible for shaping the future of Halo, PC players may have even more reason to pay attention to where the franchise goes next.
After all, if there's one thing Activision knows how to do, it's make a shooter available on just about every screen imaginable - this fan project might be the big warm-up Halo players need for a PC takeover.
