While it’s heaps of fun playing the latest releases, many of us also enjoy a nostalgia dive from time to time. It explains why remakes and remasters are all the rage as of late.

If you cast your mind back to last year, 2023 brought us Metroid Prime Remastered, Dead Space, and Resident Evil 4, just to name a few. The trend is already continuing into 2024 with this year’s remakes and remasters including Persona 3 Reload, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Silent Hill 2, Alone in the Dark, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, Tomb Raider I-III Remastered, and Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. I’m sure there are plenty of old favourites many of us would like to see added to that list including, perhaps, The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask.

Take a look at our review of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth below.

I hear you. Majora’s Mask already received the remake treatment back in 2015 but I think we can all agree that graphically, there’s a lot of untapped potential left in this title. That leads us to this particular fan project which is the work of YouTuber KurtcobainMR. Created using Unreal Engine 5, the short showcase offers a glimpse of Link walking through Termina’s Clock Town talking to the locale’s various residents and vendors. We even get a very quick look at the remade Moon which, yes, is just as nightmare-inducing as it was the first time around. Unfortunately, this short showcase is just that, a showcase. It’s a glimpse at what could be with no playable version planned.

The project has generated an immensely positive reception from fans. “This is really awesome. The colours you used look amazing. I like it so much,” one viewer wrote, while another added, “This looks absolutely amazing.” One comment simply read, “What the remake should [have] looked like. This is sick.”

It’s unknown what’s next for The Legend of Zelda franchise. Where do we go after the dizzying heights of 2023’s phenomenal Tears of the Kingdom? I have faith that Nintendo won’t let us down.
