Tomb Raider Surprise New Game Release Shadow Drops, Available Now

See Lara's origins

Crystal Dynamics has surprised us with a new Tomb Raider release, and above all else it’s been shadowdropped too.

Lara Croft is one of gaming’s oldest heroines, having been around since 1996. And although it’s been a hot while since the last major Tomb Raider game, Crystal Dynamics is keen to keep the series in the public eye.

Ahead of the second season of Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, which premieres in December on Netflix, Crystal Dynamics has shadowdropped the 2013 reboot of Tomb Raider on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.

This new re-release of the game has been achieved in partnership with Aspyr, the porting studio responsible for the recent two remaster collections of the first six games in the series.

See where it all began

“Today, we’re thrilled to announce our partnership with Aspyr in bringing Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition to Nintendo systems,” reads the announcement from Crystal Dynamics.

“This is the game that started it all for the Survivor trilogy—the viscerally intense, award-winning action-adventure that follows Lara Croft’s emotional journey from an inexperienced young woman into a hardened survivor.

“Now, you can relive that defining adventure anywhere. Engage in high-octane combat, customize Lara's weapons and gear, and overcome grueling environments, whether you're playing on your TV or exploring Yamatai on the go.”

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition is the remastered version of the game that launched around a year after the original reboot’s release for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

The Switch version features all of the same content that the original game had, which includes eight-player online multiplayer. This multiplayer wasn’t necessarily well-received at launch, however Tomb Raider fans have found themselves revisiting it over the years.

It also features the DLC that adds six bonus outfits for Lara, eight online multiplayer maps, and four multiplayer characters.

In addition to that, you also get some bonus digital content.

The Dark Horse comic Tomb Raider: The Beginning, the mini-art book Tomb Raider: The Art of Survival, and the "Final Hours of Tomb Raider" developer video is available with this release.

To celebrate the release, Crystal Dynamics is running a launch discount for Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, which will run until 24th November, 2025.

Everyone gets a 10% discount, but additional 10% loyalty discounts are stacked for Switch owners of Tomb Raider I-III Remastered and Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered, for a potential total of 30% off.
