Could a sequel to a much-loved Pokémon experience be on the way? A quiet teaser certainly hints at such an announcement coming.

On 4 October, it will have been a whole year since the launch of Detective Pikachu Returns on the Nintendo Switch.

The reception to the Pokémon title was a mixed bag.

Although the game has many redeeming qualities, here at GAMINGbible, we felt that it was an experience better suited to younger fans.

“It was an extension of the film I enjoyed and it was a place to be with my favourite Pokemon, too. I think if you temper your expectations, Detective Pikachu Returns can be exactly what it wants to be, a delightful journey through the world of Pokémon,” reads Dan Lipscombe's review.

Despite it being a little lacklustre for older generations of the Pokémon fandom, this doesn’t mean we’re not excited at the prospect of a sequel.

The teaser comes from an official Pokémon Twitter account, further adding fuel to the fire as the fandom’s excitement increases.

Poke Times shared a post about the upcoming anniversary saying, “On October 4th, the first anniversary of the release of Detective Pikachu Returns [...] may have some exciting news...”

It’s such a subtle teaser, yet it feels loaded with promise.

One fan shared Hawkeye’s ‘Don’t give me hope’ gif, mirroring similar sentiments shared in the post’s comments section.

“Detective Pikachu 2 live action?” suggested Nexuss.

We could all be preparing to be disappointed having clowned ourselves into believing a major announcement is on the way.

It’s happened before... Far too many times.

But we could also be on the cusp of seeing a sequel announced that many fans have been waiting for since they first played Detective Pikachu Returns.

Hopefully, they’ll shortly receive the news they’ve been waiting for.
