A new Nintendo Switch console update finally fixes one of its biggest issues after all these years. Better late than never, we suppose.
Whether you play on the OG Nintendo Switch or the Switch 2, it’s a fantastic platform that has treated us to a plethora of awesome games, including the likes of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, and Donkey Kong Bananza, to name a few.
However, as great as either Nintendo console is, it’s not without some flaws, and one of those flaws relates to the speed of the digital Nintendo eShop. To put it mildly, despite having updates to try and fix the issue over the years, that store is still slow, and it can be quite frustrating, even if you have fast internet speeds.
Sometimes it can take a while for a game to appear in a search, which is no good if you’re in a hurry. Well, when I say it can take a “while”, by today’s standards, it's slow compared to PlayStation and Xbox. It’s not the easiest store to navigate either, and it's probably due for a big overhaul in that respect.
Thankfully, at least one of those issues has been fixed with the latest system update, 22.5.0.

The patch notes for system update 22.5.0 don't reveal all that much, other than the Nintendo eShop now reflecting the ‘Basic Dark’ theme that you might have selected on the console dashboard. There are now also improvements made to pin code when making purchases on the eShop.
The update also added the ability to “rewind 10 seconds/advance 10 seconds with the ZL and ZR Buttons when watching a full-screen video in News or Nintendo eShop”. Of course, we also have the standard stability improvements, and whatnot.
However, as brought to our attention on Reddit, there is another improvement not detailed on the 22.5.0 patch notes, and that’s that the eShop is now processing faster.
“OH MY GOD THE ESHOP ISN’T SLOW AS SIN ANYMORE ON SWITCH 1,” yelled a delighted skyblade960.
“Holy sh**, they actually redesigned the whole thing! It's still a little slower than I'd like, but not nearly as bad as it used to be,” replied DeusExMarina.
“It only took them nearly a decade!” exclaimed PortlandoCalrissian.
“I wish they would have a system to get rid of spammy and AI games, though,” added DJettster237. Hopefully, that issue will be fixed in an upcoming update.
Simply go to the console settings via the dashboard, and the option to download update 22.5.0 is found right at the very top of system settings.
