Seeing as our princess has made her debut as the lead in a new game, now feels like the perfect time to celebrate this achievement with these free downloads.

A new era in The Legend of Zelda has begun.

For years fans have longed to see princess Zelda take the lead, and now, thanks to Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, that’s happened.

Oh, what is a princess to do? Watch The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom trailer to find out

Having played Echoes of Wisdom for ourselves, we declared it a “royal success”, praising its “magnificent” sense of adventure that “whizzes and pops with imagination”.

Perhaps you’ve missed the hype somehow, but our social media feeds have been filled with screenshots and memes about Zelda’s big adventure.

What better way to show your appreciation then by downloading one or several of these Nintendo Switch Online icons.

The first batch of icons has already been and gone, however, there’s a second wave already available.

But you’ll need to be quick – this new batch of freebies won’t hang around for long.

Nintendo players can choose from one of eight icons each wave.

Initially, there was some confusion about how many icons are available, as the Nintendo announcement only shows two images for each wave.

However, it turns out that there’s more variety than we first thought. Huzzah!

Among the options available during this second wave, there’s one of Zelda wearing her cloak looking all mysterious, as well as an adorable rendition of Hyrule’s king.

You have until 10 October to purchase them using your Platinum Points.

After that, it’ll be time for wave three, which again will bring a diverse array of icon choices for you to decorate your profile with.

The countdown until the next batch of NSO icons drops has started; be quick and claim the ones you want.

And while you’re at it, definitely check out Echoes of Wisdom if you haven’t already.
