Retro gamers will love this latest release by Nintendo which aims to see fans celebrate a classic in style.

There is nothing quite like nostalgia, especially when it comes to our favourite classic video games.

Check out the trailer for EarthBound below!

Luckily it seems as though Nintendo agrees with its latest free downloads for the Nintendo Switch.

Each week sees Nintendo cycle through a series of free icons, backgrounds and banners for its Nintendo Switch users.

From customisation inspired by Super Mario to Pokémon, all of its biggest franchises have been represented but this time, it’s a 1994 classic that is up for grabs.

For those who don’t know, EarthBound is a 1994 RPG that was originally released on the SNES.

Also known as Mother 2: Gīgu no Gyakushū, EarthBound follows the story of Ness and his party of Paula, Jeff and Poo as they travel across the world to collect melodies.

As they collect the melodies from the eight Sanctuaries, they soon find themselves coming face-to-face with the universal cosmic destroyer Giygas.

EarthBound was not received that well upon its release, at least in the U.S, but since its release in 1994, it has gradually gone on to be considered as one of the best video games of all time.

So it is perhaps no wonder that Nintendo has decided to pay homage to it by releasing a batch of 20 icons inspired by the hit.

Pointed out by NSO Icon Alerts on Twitter, these icons are now available for the Nintendo Switch online and cost 10 Platinum coins each.

Luckily, Platinum currency is virtual currency that is easily hoarded as you enjoy your time playing on the console so these are pretty much free and are a perfect way to customise your Switch profile.

They can be found by heading to the Nintendo Switch Online tab and then Missions & Rewards.
