The Nintendo Switch 2 is a great piece of hardware, and the new features have impressed the majority of players out there.
This time around, Nintendo has been more flexible than ever, giving players options for controls, connections, and upscaling of games.
With the inclusion of the new USB-C slot on top of the console, it allows for easier charging, as the console can be placed into the dock for standard charging, or an additional charger can be used via the top port.

However, some users are issuing warnings to each other regarding the use of certain chargers, particularly if you’re using a third-party plug for your dock.
Over on Reddit, one player has done some extensive testing of the power consumption of the Nintendo Switch 2 and how it interacts with various chargers.
Their explanation means that while you can use other chargers, you could end up bricking your system if the power regulator inside the dock were to become faulty, or overheat.
The console itself does a great job of metering the power, but the dock itself could be overwhelmed by chargers that put through high wattage.

This Redditor sums up by saying, “While there is a fan in the dock to cool the voltage regulators. A failed regulator (especially with input V greater than output) could harm the Switch.”
One reply states simply, “Just use standard properly build USB-C PD power supply,” which is the most ideal advice, but isn’t always perfect for every user.
This only applies to running the dock, though, so if you’re playing handheld and want some extra juice, you should be fine with other chargers.
Conversation moved on to if you could use a Steam Deck charger, for example, and someone replied, “The Steam Deck charger works fine for handheld mode but isn't enough to power the dock. It outputs 45W, which is what the OG Switch charger does as well. Either is fine for handheld use.”

So, just stick to the official supply for your dock, and you should be golden.
