Nintendo fans are seemingly losing it over a Switch 2 sequel tease that we weren't expecting to see anytime soon.

Following months of rumours, in January 2025, Nintendo finally revealed the Switch 2 and as the name of the console suggests, it’s a direct successor to the system that was originally released in 2017.

Check out the Nintendo Switch 2 trailer below!

While most details are being kept under wraps by Nintendo, the Switch 2 will boast a larger screen, improved visuals and performance, enhanced Joy-Cons and much more. It will also support backwards compatibility for select titles.

Understandably, fans are hyped for the Nintendo Switch 2 despite only having one major exclusive teased and by the looks of it, that’s Mario Kart 9.

However, as reported by ComicBook, it looks like another major exclusive will be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 but it might be wise to numb our expectations for the time being.

So what is this new Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive and why do some believe it might be happening soon? Well, it all relates to a quote-tweet from Super Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai, related to the upcoming Nintendo Direct event.

Sakurai simply quote-tweeted the word “wow” over details on the Direct event which will be dedicated to the Nintendo Switch 2.

To be honest, I don't think there’s much in this tweet. It could simply be a tweet of excitement from Sakurai or he’s just subtly reminding fans that we will get a new Super Smash Bros. game at some point.

That being said, it’s quite obvious that the Nintendo Switch 2 will get a new Super Smash Bros. game one day, whether it’s a launch title or further down the line.

The last game to be released in this beloved series was Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for the Nintendo Switch in 2018. Considering that we’ve now entered the seventh year since that release, it’s probably about time we were treated to a new game.

We’ll keep you posted if we hear any news on a new Super Smash Bros. game. As for the Direct event dedicated to the Nintendo Switch 2, that will take place on 2 April 2025.
