The Nintendo Switch 2 has been in the hands of gamers for a few days by now, and many of us are still diving into menus and tinkering with settings to get the best performance possible.

In between rounds of Mario Kart World, Nintendo fans are sharing tips on how to stretch the handheld further.

One tip has emerged over on Reddit, urging others to tweak one setting which will give your games a visual boost.

Joseki100 explains, that all users should toggle the option for HDR Output to ‘compatible software only.’

They said this, “avoids the Switch 2 trying to create a “fake HDR” for games that don’t support it by arbitrarily changing the luminosity, contrast etc in a really poor way.”

If you feel like you’re losing some colour contrast, or the graphics of the games aren’t really popping as they should, then this setting should fix it.

Others who have taken the advice report they saw an improvement, with one noting, “Setting HDR to compatible software only made such a massive difference for me. I was really disappointed with how washed out and desaturated everything looked - turn on that setting, and it fixed it completely.”

Of course, your settings may vary based on your display, and whether you’re using a TV or a monitor, so there’s plenty of helpful advice further into the thread from others.

It’s always worth noodling around in the picture settings of your TV to see if something is causing an issue - even ‘Game Mode’ on many TVs will use settings to wash out the picture, stopping vibrancy.

And with Nintendo games, you want that colour pop, seeing as bright visuals is one of the things they’re known for.

Next time you boot up your Switch 2, change this setting and see if it makes a difference.
