Nintendo Switch Censorship Has Gamers Mass Refunding Newest Release

No genitalia? No deal

Dispatch took the gaming world by storm when it launched episodically back in October 2025, thanks to its engaging storylines, choice-based gameplay and spicy scenes.

Developed by AdHoc as its debut title, Dispatch was created by Telltale veterans, and it was easy to see that the episodic narrative adventure was major inspiration for this spin on the superhero genre.

Players would take on the role of Robert Robertson aka Mecha Man who, after destroying his suit, has to head to the local dispatch centre and get a job trying to reform a bunch of former villains.

What ensues is a whole lot of hilarity, chaos, and nail-biting decisions as players embark on an eight-episode season.

In her review, our very own Kate Harrold called Dispatch “one of the greatest of all time”.

“After an incredibly successful season, Adhoc’s developers totally deserve to put their feet up and luxuriate within all of this success … not for too long though. I’d quite like a second season please.”

Following the success of Dispatch on both PC and PlayStation 5 last year, the hit title has finally made its way to the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, with pre-orders going live earlier this year.

However, despite Dispatch only just launching on the handheld consoles, players are already requesting refunds for one very valid reason.

In the PC and PlayStation 5 versions of Dispatch, players are able to toggle ‘Visual Censorship’ in the settings.

However, in the Switch versions, censorship is automatically enabled and can not be turned off, meaning that some of the game’s spiciest scenes and visuals are completely blocked.

Not only that, but the censorship comes in the form of a giant black bar which covers any genitalia and even the occasional middle finger.

NintendoLife reached to AdHoc about this decision with the studio releasing the following statement:

"Different platforms have different content criteria, and submissions are evaluated individually.

“For our Switch release, we worked with Nintendo to adapt certain elements so Dispatch could be on their platform."

How To Request a Refund For Dispatch on Nintendo Switch

As per the official Nintendo website, Nintendo will not offer refunds for any purchases. However, one user over on Reddit claims they had success by calling Nintendo Support.

“Earlier today after learning of the non-optional censored version of Dispatch on Nintendo Switch only after purchasing the game, I called Nintendo support and formally, politely, and firmly requested a refund.

“And as of 20 minutes ago I can confirm I’ve received my refund.”

It seems as though this decision is being supported by fellow users.

“Good,” the top comment reads.

“The censorship is bad itself, but the lack of transparency of the studio shouldn't be rewarded. They knew and chose not to share it, deceiving potential players by not telling them they were getting an inferior product.”

So if you have pre-ordered Dispatch on the Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2, be prepared for a whole lot of non-negotiable censorship.
