For a short time only, Legend of Zelda fans can claim several free downloads – but you’ve got to be quick.

Quite possibly, you’ve left your Nintendo Switch turned off this weekend, having decided to explore the highest rated game of the year instead.

It’s a totally understandable reason.

Still, while you may not have anything to play on your Nintendo console, there are five free downloads related to The Legend of Zelda you’ll want to check out before they’re gone.

The countdown to The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom release has started

These downloads reference the 90s version of our beloved hero dressed in green, making these freebies a must for those chasing the high of nostalgia.

Based on The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX, the downloads take the form of a small but stunning batch of Nintendo Switch Online icons.

Although many of you would prefer to see Wind Waker or Twilight Princess ports for the Switch, these icons will have to do for now.

The five icons have an illustrative quality to them rather than pixel art imagery, indicative of the game they’re inspired by.

Perhaps this won’t be to everyone’s taste, but we think they’re rather charming.

As usual, these icons will cost Platinum Points; 10 points per icon to be exact. Platinum Points can be earnt for free.

You have until 30 September to download them, which while not exactly just around the corner, isn’t a far-off date in the future either. Consequently, time is of the essence.

These icons could become available later down the line – Nintendo has been known to repeat icon batches – however there’s never any guarantee.

While we can’t promise you can right your wrong if you miss out on these freebies now, what we can do is offer you a way to save the battery life of your Switch.

This hidden trick will prevent the battery from draining so quickly, making it a vital tip every Switch player needs to know, especially before setting off on a long trip.

Whatever the reason you switch on your Switch, make sure to check out these new icons before they disappear.
