Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 owners have a fresh batch of new games to play, all at no additional cost.
To be bluntly honest, Nintendo Switch Online isn’t a great service when it comes to new games. Sure if you’re a retro gamer or simply have an interest in the classics, its humble offering may be of interest to you, but it’s a far cry from what it could be.
That said, we’re just grateful Nintendo is still supporting the service with five new games we’d highly recommend you give a try.
Recently, Nintendo caught us all off-guard and brought back the Virtual Boy, the gaming company’s first and only attempt at virtual reality gaming.
Despite being cool in concept, it was a failure by all accounts when it launched in 1995 but it’s found a new home on the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, as have its limited game library.

The following Virtual Boy games have now been added to Nintendo Switch Online, but keep in mind you’ll need one of Nintendo’s new Virtual Boy models to play them. Either the plastic replica or the cheaper cardboard equivalent.

Jack Bros. is a maze game developed by Atlus. Players control one of three brothers, one of which Persona fans will already be acquainted with. Jack Frost, Jack Lantern, and Jack Skelton must navigate the maze and escape back to Fairy Land, before they’re trapped in the real-world forever.
Not much to say about this one as we’re pretty sure everyone has played a Space Invaders game at some point in their lives. The difference this time is it’ll look somewhat 3D as you’re blasting aliens out of the sky.
Same as Space Invaders really, everyone’s played Tetris. Aside from the 3D effect, the only other difference is a V shape will count towards your score, as will all the other shapes you’re used to by now.
Vertical Force is a classic shoot-em-up and ideal for any type of gamer, regardless of how many similar games they’ve played. The 3D effect is very cool in this one, so we’d definitely recommend it.
Finally we have Virtual Bowling, another solid example of the Virtual Boy’s 3D effect. It’s no Wii Sports Bowling we’ll give you that but it’s by no means a bad game. It’s just a bit of a boring one when you look at it alongside some of the other titles.
All five of the above games are now available to play on both the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, but only if you have an active subscription to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack.
It’s been nice to see the Virtual Boy get more love but we’re hoping the next batch will be focused around console libraries we actually want to see expanded, like the Nintendo 64 and Nintendo GameCube.
