Animal Crossing Free Download Available For You To Grab Through August

Is your favourite villager included?

While Animal Crossing’s future remains uncertain, Nintendo has dropped a new batch of profile icons to keep fans of this beloved franchise ticking over.

From what I can tell, this latest batch is available on both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 consoles and, as per usual, each icon will set you back 10 platinum coins.

“But Kate, the headline says free?” I hear you say.

Well, you silly billy, platinum coins are a free currency which you can acquire by completing a multitude of easy tasks.

For example, linking your Nintendo Network ID to your Nintendo Account can bag your 100 points; that’s enough to nab 10 icons.

Even signing in to My Nintendo should bag you 30 points a week. There are plenty of different things you can do to restore your coffers.

Once you’ve garnered enough points, head on over to My Nintendo Rewards where you’ll find the full selection of profile icons, backgrounds, and borders.

As I mentioned, this latest drop is focused on Animal Crossing: New Horizons with 43 icons to choose from, as well as five backgrounds and five frames.

The frames and backgrounds will only set you back five points each.

Certainly, acquiring a new profile icon isn’t life changing, but it may be a nice way to showcase your love for a particular villager, if they’re included in this selection.

Is Gigi your top choice? How about Nana or Gloria?

There’s no word on exactly how long these icons are sticking around but Nintendo has a tendency to refresh every month, so I’d definitely act sooner rather than later if there’s something you want to nab.

Naturally, what we’re all itching for is a new game announcement.

I think that’s a matter of ‘when’ and not ‘if’, but it’s likely we’ll be waiting a good few years.

After all, Nintendo will want to give next year’s Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream plenty of breathing room and while it’s not Animal Crossing, it’s the next best thing, if you ask me.
