The next Grand Theft Auto game could have a price in the triple digits, and as you can imagine people aren’t happy about it.

Now a hefty price tag is nothing new in the game industry as you could quite easily spend over £100 on some games, the difference is that’s usually for some sort of collector’s edition or at the very least early-access.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is already guilty of this and it caused quite a stir

Never before though have we had to pay that much for just the game itself, but this year that could change forever as it’s said GTA VI could cost $100 at launch.

This is what analysts are warning anyway, and there’s even talk of other studios hoping it’s the case so other games can be priced in a similar way.

As you can expect, no one in their right mind likes this idea and it’s led to several discussions online about how valuable games actually are.

X user TheNCSmaster responded to the news saying “There’s no video game worth $100 There’s barely any worth $70” and while the majority of commenters agreed you’d be surprised to hear how many were actually onboard with it…

One commenter highlighted the real issue immediately, saying they “the real victims of this decision will be the kids of low income parents who can’t afford to spend half their groceries bills on a video game.”

A different comment said: “‘Oh boy! I can't wait for games to be more expensive!’-no gamer ever.”

Some believe the price increase could actually be justifiable though, saying you would “pay $30 for a movie ticket to garbage that lasts 2 hours. A game can last over 1000.”

Personally I don’t see GTA VI costing that much, but if it does, it could start a domino effect that ruins the game industry for many..
