Forget GTA 6, GTA 5 players can explore a remastered Vice City now

GTA V players waiting for GTA VI will be happy to know there’s a fully playable version of Vice City in the game right now.

GTA V players waiting for GTA VI will be happy to know there’s a fully playable version of Vice City in the game right now.

GTA VI is finally going to take the series back to Vice City, though this time there’ll be even more to explore as the borders expand to the entire fictional state of Leonida, modelled after real-life Florida.

Take a look at the trailer for GTA VI below

Unfortunately players still have a long wait ahead of them, as the game is scheduled to launch sometime in 2025, though recent developments suggest the game could be delayed to 2026.

This means an even longer wait for PC players, who are expected the earliest they’ll get their hands on the game is late 2026 to 2027.

Now if you simply can’t wait to explore Vice City and its surrounding areas fear not, as a new mod for GTA V will port it over as a DLC area, and there are even some new details added.

This isn’t just the map either, it’s basically the entire game complete with the story missions and side content, but running in GTA V.

Graphically there was only so much that could be done with Vice City, with it being more upscaled than fully-remade for GTA V which would have been a monumental task for anyone other than Rockstar Games.

That being said, it does look better than the official remaster featured in Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, which was harshly criticised for looking very cartoonish, even for a game that was originally released in the early 2000s.

Considering how much longer we’ll likely need to wait for GTA VI, this Vice City expansion mod for GTA V might be just what we need to pass the time, as well as get a lay of the land in preparation for the sequel.
