The OG Star Wars Battlefront 2 is coming to PlayStation 5

A listing on the PlayStation Store suggests that PS Plus subscribers will soon be getting their hands on Star Wars: Battlefront II.

The next Star Wars drought has officially begun. Season one of Andor has drawn to a close and we don’t know exactly when we’re going to get our next Star Wars fix. It’s been confirmed that season three of The Mandalorian will premiere on 1 March, 2023 - plus Star Wars Jedi: Survivor may not be too far away. If rumours are to be believed, many suspect Respawn Entertainment’s upcoming title will get a release date at next week’s The Game Awards.

In terms of gaming, there is so much on the horizon when it comes to Star Wars. There’s Amy Hennig’s project, an untitled FPS from Respawn, Ubisoft’s open world game, Quantic Dream’s Star Wars: Eclipse, Zynga’s Star Wars: Hunters, Respawn’s strategy game, plus Saber Interactive’s Knights Of The Old Republic Remake. As if that wasn’t enough, it looks like an old favourite may also be returning, Star Wars: Battlefront II - the original, that is.

Check out the trailer for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor below. Who do you think is in the bacta tank?

Last month, Pandemic Studios’ Star Wars: Battlefront II turned 17 years old prompting an outpouring of nostalgic love from fans of the title. Hailed a ‘masterpiece,’ the game’s single-player campaign sees players join Darth Vader’s 501st legion of Stormtroophers. Once a game of the past, a new rumour claims that Battlefront II will soon be available on PlayStation 4 and 5 as a part of PlayStation Plus’ premium tier.

As reported by Push Square, a now-hidden listing on the PlayStation Store suggested that the PSP version of Battlefront II was being adapted for PS4/5 to be made available to PS Plus premium subscribers. The game was listed as a classic title so it certainly fits the bill for what we’ve come to expect from the premium tier. The listing said that the game had been updated with “up-rendering, rewind, quick save, and custom video filters.”

We’ll certainly find out the truth in a few weeks. PlayStation tend to announce the extra and premium tier line-up mid-month. In case you missed it, Mass Effect Legendary Edition, Biomutant, and Divine Knockout were revealed as this month’s essential games. Those become available to download on 6 December.
