Latest PlayStation Plus freebies are a big win with subscribers

We love to see it

The PlayStation Plus Essential free games for October 2022 have proven to be a huge hit with subscribers since being announced last week.

For those who might not have been paying attention, the three free games coming to the PlayStation Plus Essential tier October were confirmed to be Hot Wheels Unleashed, Injustice 2, and Superhot. Not a bad lineup at all, to be fair.

But while many of us were surely expecting there to be a wave of complaints about the complete lack of horror games, many subscribers have taken to social media to - and I'm as shocked as you are - praise the latest PS Plus lineup.

Over on the PlayStation Plus subreddit, fans were quick to praise one game in particular: Hot Wheels Unleashed.

While I haven't personally played Hot Wheels Unleashed, it certainly looks like a good time. Bright, colourful, and fast - everyone I want from a racing game. Sure enough, those who have played the game had plenty of good things to say about it.

"It's honestly the most fun I had with a racing game in a while," one user wrote. "I really enjoyed the single player mode."

"Hot Wheels is so fun and has surprisingly great graphics," added another.

Others pointed out that Hot Wheels Unleashed is exactly the kind of game they want to see on PS Plus: a game they wouldn't normally consider buying but are happy to check out under the right circumstances (ie, free).

Elsewhere, people were happy to throw praise at both Superhot and Injustice 2, which is totally understandable given they're both bangers. While Superhot arguably doesn't work quite as well outside of VR, it's still an awesome, stylish game that everyone should try.

As for Injustice 2? Well, even if you're not great at fighting games I'd say give it a try. If nothing else, it has one of the best comic book stories I've ever seen in a video game, with a completely heartbreaking final battle. Be sure to take a look!
