Tom Holland's Reaction To 'No Way Home' Almost Overtaking 'Avatar' Is Too Pure

During an interview, the actor was informed just how well the movie is doing in the US, and his reaction was amazing.

We’re now almost two months on from the release of No Way Home, and it seems like the overwhelming hype is only now starting to quieten down a little. I’m sure I don’t need to tell you that it was basically universally considered to be amazing, both by fans and critics - our very own Ewan Moore described it as “the cinematic equivalent of a hyperactive kid tipping all their action figures onto the bed and smashing them together for a few hours.”

Well, obviously then, it’s unsurprising that it’s been doing really good at the box office, too. Last month, it managed to overtake Titanic in the US box office, and it seems that its rampage through the charts isn't stopping anytime soon.

While you're here, be sure to check out our interview with Tom Holland below.

Speaking to Tom Holland, an interviewer from BackstageOL asked how he feels to be so close to having the biggest movie of all time: “I think we’re a bit of a ways away from the biggest movie of all time, right? No?” asked Holland. “You’re 20 million [dollars] away domestically here in the United States, and you will take over Avatar,” the interviewer responded. Holland’s jaw drops, and he just sits there in stunned silence for a moment. Understandable.

Now, there’s some slightly dubious phrasing going on here, so let’s just clarify. The domestic box office numbers account solely for revenue earned in the United States and Canada, not worldwide. Not only that, but despite being the highest grossing film worldwide, Avatar isn’t actually the top of the US box office charts - it’s third, behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Avengers: Endgame. Still, it’s a massive feat regardless.

In other Spider-Man news, it sounds like Tom Holland is interested in some pretty obscure collaborations happening in the future - he revealed on the Zoe Ball Breakfast Show that he and Florence Pugh, aka Black Widow’s Yelena Belova, have talked about the potential of a crossover, and are hoping to make it happen one day. So, that’s exciting. We’ll just have to see what happens.
