Pokémon fans assemble as Nintendo has just dropped a classic title coming to the Switch soon and better yet, it is absolutely free.

Seemingly out of the blue, Nintendo of America took to Twitter earlier today to reveal that it would be adding the classic Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team to the Nintendo Switch.

Check out the trailer for Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet below!

Arriving on 9 August, the classic Pokémon title will be free for all Nintendo Switch Online members so don’t miss out if you want to get your hands on this epic freebie.

If you missed out on this title the first time around, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team was first released in 2005 alongside Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team.

Much like Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet in 2002, this pair of games were originally released for the Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance and are considered some of the best entries in the franchise.

The synopsis for Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team reads: “You wake up one day, turned into a Pokemon.

This land is being ravaged by a natural disaster so you decide to form a rescue team with a partner Pokemon.

As a Pokemon, you can interact with many other different Pokemon on various missions while trying to uncover their true purpose and destiny.

An engrossing story of adventure, redemption and, most of all, friendship.”

As you can probably imagine, fans are overjoyed to hear this 2005 title is arriving on the Nintendo Switch and took to r/NintendoSwitch to share their excitement.

“There are enough differences between DX and the originals that I would still play through this version again,” one wrote.

“I’m still super nostalgic for the friend areas and the old compressed music tracks.”

Another said: “Let's gooooo!!! I'm happy for any acknowledgement of PMD since we haven't had anything since the remake.”

With just a few days to go, there’s not long to wait until you can dive back into a Pokémon classic.
