A new open-world RPG could be one to look out for, especially if you’re a fan of GTA and Mafia.
With the release of GTA VI on the horizon, fans of the ever-popular Rockstar Games series are getting increasingly more hyped to get their hands on the game, with many keen to claim their pre-orders right now.
If the wait for GTA VI is too much to bear, then not only do you still have GTA V to play, but I can wholeheartedly recommend the Mafia series, especially its most recent entry, Mafia: The Old County, which was released in August this year.
“Mafia: The Old Country is a great entry to the long-running series, and it’s done a fine job at adapting the formula to a brand new historical context,” said GAMINGbible’s Olly, in his review.

“It does run the risk of alienating long-time fans, as the jump back in time makes it quite an adjustment. However, if you just let it tell the story it wants to, you’ll find it can match the quality you've come to expect from this series.”
However, along with the upcoming GTA VI and Mafia: The Old Country, there may be a new competitor entering the crime-riddled, open-world fray, and no, I’m not talking about MindsEye.
It might be worth keeping tabs on this game

The fairly new development studio, Liquid Swords (not to be confused with the Wu-Tang Clan album), was founded in 2020 by the director of the Just Cause series and co-founder of Avalanche Studios, Christofer Sundberg.

A teaser clip was shared on the Liquid Swords Twitter account, giving us a glimpse of its upcoming open-world game, which instantly gave me GTA IV vibes. The city in the clip very much looks similar to Liberty City, so it might be set in New York City, which is my guess, but I could be very wrong.
At the time of writing, the debut game from Liquid Swords does not have an official name or release date, but with a slogan like “Hope moved out. Violence pays the rent. Get comfortable,” it appears to be out of the GTA and Mafia playbook.
There’s not much else to go on right now, but given the fact that Liquid Swords has just released this teaser, hopefully, we won't be waiting much longer for a proper reveal and juicy details.
Responding to the clip, fans were hopeful but stressed the last thing the world needs is a 'GTA clone'.

"Please be a open game and please be a GTA killer," one said on X.
"If its a narrative driven game not focusing on gameplay features and more focused on story I could see the game actually being quite good. I don't need another GTA clone," a second said.
We’ll keep you posted when we learn more about this intriguing open-world crime game. As for Grand Theft Auto VI, as long as it suffers no further delay, it will be released on 26 May 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
