In case you weren’t aware, a live-action One Piece adaptation has been in the works for some time now. It was first announced all the way back in 2017 and later confirmed for Netflix in 2020 (thanks, Wikipedia), although it only just started production in February this year.

The original series is notoriously huge - since 1997, over 100 volumes of the manga have been published, and the anime adaptation, which premiered in 1999, has over 1000 episodes. What’s more, both of these are still going. Good luck catching up with that if you’ve not read or seen any of it before. Thankfully though, the Netflix series is seemingly going to be a lot more manageable - it’s currently down for 10 episodes, and we’ve just got an amazing first glimpse at some of the show’s gorgeous sets.

Before we get into it, did you know that a One Piece RPG is also in the works? Take a look at the trailer below.

As reported by IGN, the official One Piece Netflix Twitter account has shared a clip which revealed some concept art for a number of the ships in the show, including the Going Merry and Miss Love Duck, before showing off an incredible time-lapse of the Baratie Bar being built from the ground up. The people at the side of the boat help give perspective of just how massive these sets are, and no detail has been spared - take a look below.

Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, is one of the Netflix show’s executive producers, alongside Matt Owens and Steve Maeda. As for the cast, Iñaki Godoy (The Imperfects) is taking the role of Monkey D. Luffy, Mackenyu Arata (Rurouni Kenshin: The Final) will be Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd (Fear Street) is Nami, Jacob Romero Gibson (Grey’s Anatomy) will be Usopp, and Taz Skylar (The Kill Team) is Sanji.

There’s currently no release window for the show, but given that it only recently started production (and it appears that some of the sets are still being built), it’s probably going to be a while away yet.
