Power Rangers is coming back in a reboot series of films and TV shows for Netflix.
This is intended to be a set of new stories occurring in a new universe, and the property itself has been handed off to Jonathan Entwistle, the creator and director of The End Of The F***ing World and I Am Not Okay With This. “Since we set up Power Rangers with Jonathan, we pitched really a whole-world approach. It’s not just one show, it is shows followed by films, some kids’ programming. We have found a great writing partner for him, they are off,” said Michael Lombardo, eOne president of global television, in an interview with Deadline.

“Knock on wood, Netflix is excited, we’re excited, we hope to have some news soon,” continued Lombardo. As well as Power Rangers, there are adaptations of Risk, Magic: The Gathering and Clue, the latter of which is in the works with Bento Box and will be “bold, kind of slightly tongue-in-cheek, like Bob’s Burgers.”

However, we might be waiting a while for news on the Power Rangers projects, because the live-action Dungeons & Dragons film and accompanying TV show is the apple of eOne’s eye. “We have had numerous discussions and a lot of interesting filmmakers, it’s just finding the right team that has legs,” said Lombardo.
“We have a big movie that’s in post right now that will come out first so, we’re trying to also navigate the brand more holistically so that the movie feels not apart from but connected somehow to a bigger universe,” he stated, expressing the excitement over the possibilities that a Dungeons & Dragons universe might hold. The film, on the other hand, has Chris Pine Michelle Rodriguez, Justice Smith, Regé-Jean Page and more attached to the project in unannounced roles.
All this talk of Power Rangers does remind me of the cancelled game that would have riffed off Batman: Arkham City for an "ambitious, open world co-op that captured the energy, teamwork, and history of the franchise through a fresh lens." Check it out here!
