Starfield has some heavy expectations to uphold. As Bethesda’s first brand new intellectual property developed in over 25 years, I’m sure I don’t need to explain why that is. You only need to look at the enduring popularity of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim to know that Starfield has big shoes to fill.
Set two years after an era known as the Colony War, players explore The Settled Systems as space explorers, wary of the system’s uneasy peace. A welcomed touch is that the game can be played from either first or third person perspective. Despite being months away from release, insiders are already suggesting that a Starfield MMORPG prequel is already in the works at Bethesda.
As a refresher, check out the trailer for Starfield below.
The suggestion was made by analyst SkullziTV who claims that the standalone MMORPG will be set 20 years prior to Starfield during the aforementioned Colony Wars between the United Colonies and the Freestar Collective.

In a video posted to YouTube, SkullziTV explained that Bethesda’s Montreal studio has been working on an unannounced project for quite some time. Previous job postings for the developer’s Austin office, now hidden by Bethesda, read “Bethesda Game Studios is seeking a qualified server engineer to help create and improve systems for an unannounced title.” The Austin studio is reportedly known for their work on online games.
SkullziTV further explained that ZeniMax Online Studios, the force behind The Elder Scrolls Online are also known to be working on a new MMORPG which they previously said was a new IP. As SkullziTV went on to note, every previous major Bethesda franchise has an accompanying MMORPG. As with any rumour, this all has to be taken with a pinch of salt until Bethesda makes any official announcements. You’ve got to admit though, it’s a convincing argument.
