In an unexpected move, Mojang Studios have announced during the Xbox and Bethesda showcase that a brand new Minecraft game is coming next year.

Minecraft Legends is set to be a new action-strategy game that will be coming to Xbox consoles, PC, cloud and Game Pass sometime in 2023. It’s worth noting that every game featured in the showcase was teased as being released in the next 12 months so we’d expect Minecraft Legends to land in the first half of 2023.

Take a look at the brand new trailer for Minecraft Legends below, which features adorable Minecraft bunnies - just in case you were interested.

The game is being made in partnership with Blackbird Interactive. Dennis Ries, Minecraft Legends’ executive producer, said that the game “takes players to the Minecraft universe in a fun and unique new way, as they lead their allies in heroic battles to defend the Overworld.”

Ries went on to add, “Players will discover a gentle land, both familiar and mysterious, full of lush biomes and rich resources. But this beautiful land is on the brink of terrible change – the piglin invasion has begun and threatens to corrupt the Overworld. It's up to the player to make unexpected friends (including some classic mobs you’ll recognise from Minecraft) to form valuable alliances and lead the way into strategic battles against the fierce invaders from the Nether.”

The team noted that they’ll have more to share on the project soon and we’ll certainly be keeping an eye out.
