Adorable Minecraft Baby Animal Update Has Split the Internet

Cute or too similar? It's up for debate, that's for sure

Minecraft is preparing for its 'cutest drop yet' and for some reason, that’s upsetting players. I’ll unpack.

In an upcoming update, Minecraft is set to add baby farm mobs which are adorable as they sound. Seriously, I would protect that new puppy design with my LIFE. Well, maybe I’m being a tad dramatic.

You can actually already sample said baby farm mobs if you have snapshots enabled in Minecraft: Java Edition or beta/previews enabled in Minecraft: Bedrock Edition.

Puppies, kittens, piglets, calves, chickens, ocelots, lambs, and rabbits are amongst the creatures that have been given cute visual overhauls.

Explaining the change, game director Agnes Larsson said: “Until now, the baby mobs have been scaled down versions of the adult mobs but with big heads, but now our artists have given them unique textures and models that give each baby mob their own adorable look and identity.

“Typically mobs in Minecraft have two-pixel eyes, but now baby mobs have just one which creates a new vibe for them, which is just adorable.”

The update also adds the ability to craft name tags using paper and any metal nugget, allowing you to easily name your cute new pals.

Devs have also added new custom baby mob sounds. Personally, I’ve always thought of Minecraft as a cosy game, but now I’m even more sure in my assertion.

I highly suggest you read up on the full blog post if you want an in-depth commentary on every species change made.

You may then be wondering why such wholesome additions to the game are causing upset.

Well, it seems to stem from some players feeling underwhelmed by the lack of content on the way, expecting more than just an overhaul of baby mobs.

The Initial Response Has Been Mixed

I’d be lying if I said this reveal had resulted in a wholly bad response.

A quick trip to social media and you’ll find plenty of people happy with these new designs.

“OH MY GOD,” wrote Twitter/X user charmerforsure, whilst nonplayablecin added, “Fineee, I’ll get back into Minecraft just for the baby animals.”

On the other end of the spectrum though, there are plenty of people who were expecting more.

“Isn’t that the exact same?” wrote UpdatingOnRome.

“It literally looks the same,” added WorldArchived.

This all proves a fact that we already know to be universally true but if you were still unsure, you can’t please everyone.
