Mark Zuckerberg's Employees Gave Him An Awful Lord Of The Rings Nickname

Tell me you've never seen The Lord Of The Rings without telling me you've never seen The Lord Of The Rings

Meta CEO and alien in disguise Mark Zuckerberg has revealed the strange nickname he's earned from his employees - and it's not particularly flattering.

The tech billionaire admitted in a recent interview that his staff enjoy comparing him to one of the most evil villains in all of fiction, though he insists it's done in a loving way.

Before we move on, why not take a chilling peek inside the Metaverse, if you dare?

During a recent appearance on The Tim Ferriss Show, Zuckerberg said that he's often referred to as the Eye of Sauron. For those that might not be aware, the Eye of Sauron is the all-seeing eye from The Lord Of The Rings that the Dark Lord Sauron uses to track his enemies through Middle-Earth.

While it's not the most flattering comparison to be made, Zuckerberg believes that it's supposed to be a term of endearment. I can only imagine he hasn't actually seen or read The Lord Of The Rings.

“Some of the folks I work with at the company - they say this lovingly - but I think that they sometimes refer to my attention as the Eye of Sauron," he explained.

"You have this unending amount of energy to go work on something, and if you point that at any given team, you will just burn them.”

During the same interview, the CEO also touched on his hopes for the still-budding Metaverse, a new virtual reality world that will allow users to do exciting things like attend meetings and get the weekly shop.

“There are all these reasons why it is very valuable for people to be able to be present in another place, no matter what the situation is,” he said.

“You don’t have to be in some kind of dystopian situation to be present with another person that you care about, or an opportunity that is better at another place."
