The Lord of the Rings is deserving of a new, modern open-world game on the same level of Hogwarts Legacy, and gamers are getting one.
Hogwarts Legacy was a pleasant surprise for both fans of the Harry Potter series, who are currently celebrating the first official trailer of the HBO series, and those who don’t know their dementors from their death eaters.
With an open-world containing some truly iconic Harry Potter locations, such as Hogwarts itself, Diagon Alley, and Hogsmeade it’s no wonder the game sold millions of copies all across the world.
It’s already been confirmed that Hogwarts Legacy 2 is on the way, and hopefully the sequel will give players even more freedom of where they’d like to go and what they’d like to do. That said the next game could have a fight on its hands, as a new challenger is said to be approaching.
The Lord of the Rings is said to be getting the Hogwarts Legacy treatment, with an open-world RPG that’ll plant players in the most realistic depiction of Tolkien’s Middle-Earth ever seen in a video game.
Advert
It’s all very secretive at the moment, with even the developer behind this monumental challenge being a mystery.
However the rumours are saying that this upcoming Lord of the Rings game will be absolutely enormous, possibly even on par with the recently released Crimson Desert in terms of scope and scale.

The entirety of Middle-Earth is said to be explorable, which many gamers are finding a little hard to believe but with the way open-world games have been going recently it’s bound to be a big map.
Hopefully it’s not too big though… The movie magic found in the Lord of the Rings film trilogy might have you thinking most of the Fellowship’s adventures take place over a day or two but the stories span weeks at a time during some chapters. Gamers on the Lord of the Rings MMO game spend actual real-life days recreating the Fellowship’s journey from The Shire to Mordor so they probably don’t want to do it again, albeit with prettier graphics.
That said, the mere concept of a Lord of the Rings game that big is exciting, and if the rumours are, it'll probably be on track for Game of the Year, let alone be serious competition for Hogwarts Legacy 2.
For now fans will just have to keep their eyes peeled for an announcement trailer, which might appear amidst the hype of the upcoming sequel/prequel films.
