It Looks Like Ubisoft Is Finally Shelving Watch Dogs For Good

Watch Dogs is an interesting franchise. It’s one of those series that slowly paddles along without ever really making the impact that we’re all waiting for.

In retrospect, Watch Dogs: Legion is a decent game. The variety of NPCs was a vast improvement on earlier instalments in the franchise, and the futuristic urban setting separated Watch Dogs: Legion from the large array of post-apocalyptic-set titles that we’re mostly used to seeing these days. The game sold fairly well but again, it just simply didn’t blow anyone away.

Watch Dogs: Legion was set in a futuristic London. Take a look at the in-game landmarks compared to their real life counterparts.

It now looks like Ubisoft may be pulling the plug on the series altogether. The theory (pointed out by Game Rant) comes from YouTuber JorRaptor and he offers a convincing argument. 

JorRaptor points out that Ubisoft confirmed that the Bloodline DLC, which came out earlier this year, would be the last content update released for the game. Watch Dogs: Legion will also not receive any further patches.

The YouTuber also notes the Axios report which previously detailed staff departures at Ubisoft. According to JorRaptor, senior members of the Watch Dogs development team have either been moved across to other games or have left the company altogether.

It was expected that Watch Dogs: Legion would receive multi-year seasonal content as has been the case with Assassin's Creed: Valhalla. The two games were released one month apart yet only Valhalla continues to receive updates.

Ubisoft has a number of huge games set to release in the coming months and years including Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake, Assassin’s Creed Infinity, Skull & Bones, and an untitled Star Wars game. 

With all that in mind, it’s no surprise that Ubisoft might be pulling the plug on the tepid Watch Dogs series. As with all rumours, this must be taken with a pinch of salt until anything is officially confirmed by Ubisoft.
