To the surprise of next to nobody on Earth, Jack Black is bathing in praise for his performance as Bowser in the latest trailer for the anticipated The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
Oddly enough, this movie hasn't been without its controversies. First things first, Chris Pratt is playing Mario, which has been enough for some to write off the film before it's even hit theatres. Then, Pratt said that his voice for the character is "unlike anything you’ve heard in the Mario world before" and he wasn't totally wrong. We haven't heard Chris Pratt's voice in the Mario world and that's just what the actor delivered. Of course, in contrast to the Guardians of the Galaxy star's bland performance, Jack Black's booming presence as Bowser is getting all of the love from fans.
Check out the new trailer, featuring scenes from Jack Black's nefarious Bowser, below!

Excitingly, Bowser is characterised to be an actual formidable villain, capturing Luigi and threatening the Mushroom Kingdom with his oncoming armies. Black appears to have really leaned into his role too, scoring even more fans than he had already:
Jack Black will be to the Super Mario Bros. movie what Jim Carrey is to the Sonic the Hedgehog films.

how disappointing that the three main characters in super mario bros sound lifeless, but the movie looks like it's gonna be pretty great and Jack Black and Michael Keegan sound amazing

Literally every voice actor other than Chris Pratt sounds great!

Charlie Day nails it as Luigi and Jack Black as Bowser is phenomenal. But then you have Mario who just sounds like Chris Pratt.https://t.co/hGGQ1fAmu9

This is just one huge love letter to Mario and I LOVE it! Jack Black is going to be the true scene stealer but Chris will still be hard to get used to. Also, some might not dig my girl Anya as Peach but I think she’ll do her service. #SuperMarioBrosMoviehttps://t.co/DxwVnKmRrE

Still, it looks like Pratt has a lot to live up to. I wasn't super duper interested in the film but those Easter eggs and references to the series peppered throughout the trailer might just have changed my mind. The rest of the cast is rounded out with Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Sebastian Maniscalco as Foreman Spike, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek and Mario voice actor Charles Martinet will appear in cameos.
