Jack Black dominates new Super Mario Bros Movie trailer

The word "phenomenal" is thrown about these days, but this time, it's valid.

To the surprise of next to nobody on Earth, Jack Black is bathing in praise for his performance as Bowser in the latest trailer for the anticipated The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

Oddly enough, this movie hasn't been without its controversies. First things first, Chris Pratt is playing Mario, which has been enough for some to write off the film before it's even hit theatres. Then, Pratt said that his voice for the character is "unlike anything you’ve heard in the Mario world before" and he wasn't totally wrong. We haven't heard Chris Pratt's voice in the Mario world and that's just what the actor delivered. Of course, in contrast to the Guardians of the Galaxy star's bland performance, Jack Black's booming presence as Bowser is getting all of the love from fans.

Check out the new trailer, featuring scenes from Jack Black's nefarious Bowser, below!

Excitingly, Bowser is characterised to be an actual formidable villain, capturing Luigi and threatening the Mushroom Kingdom with his oncoming armies. Black appears to have really leaned into his role too, scoring even more fans than he had already:

Still, it looks like Pratt has a lot to live up to. I wasn't super duper interested in the film but those Easter eggs and references to the series peppered throughout the trailer might just have changed my mind. The rest of the cast is rounded out with Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Sebastian Maniscalco as Foreman Spike, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek and Mario voice actor Charles Martinet will appear in cameos.
