We've finally been given our first look at Hogwarts Legacy in action, and it's safe to say that the team at Avalanche Software have gone above and beyond in creating the kind of immersive Harry Potter RPG fans have been waiting for.

While the gameplay trailer, which you can see below, only scratched the surface of what Hogwarts Legacy has to offer, it's clear that this is going to be a truly enormous game.

The trailer teased us with the notion to explore the entirety of Hogwarts, with its myriad secret passages and hidden dungeons. But the game will extend well beyond that too, into locations like the wizarding village of Hogsmeade, the Forbidden Forest, and even beyond.

"When it comes to the open world, we just knew it wasn't going to be enough to stare out the window of Hogwarts and wonder what's out there," explained game director Alan Tew in a behind-the-scenes video.

"The final question that fans ask is: 'what's beyond that? What's gonna be beyond the Forbidden Forest? Beyond Hogsmede? What's past the Black Lake if I start travelling south?' And we just felt like we had to answer those questions."

Thrillingly, the behind-the-scenes featurette also threw up the briefest of looks at a map. While it's clearly an earlier concept and not the official in-game map, it does give us a good idea at the true scope of Hogwarts Legacy and the intent of Avalanche Software. There are multiple mountainous regions, lakes, forests, and smaller villages to explore - no doubt all with their own quests, secrets, and challenges.

Hogwarts Legacy is currently expected to release this "holiday", which typically means any time between October and December. We'll be sure to update you as soon as we learn more. Until then, feel free to re-watch the trailer over and over.
