Hogwarts Legacy is currently the most wishlisted game on Steam, surpassing Starfield, Hollow Knight: Silksong, Sons of the Forest and other highly anticipated titles.
Set in the 19th century, this will be a slightly different magical school for fans to explore in an open world, featuring familiar faces like Nearly Headless Nick, The Fat Lady, and Peeves. Furthermore, players will be able to customise their character, changing their voice and body type, house and gender. Characters encountered in classes can deepen their friendships with the player character and come along on quests, offering unique dialogue options.

However, some will struggle with the connection that the game to Harry Potter author J. K. Rowling. In 2020, Rowling released an essay where she revealed she had suffered an assault and this event changed the way that she saw men and women as gendered categories. As a result, she agreed that transgender people were "vulnerable" and "deserved protection" but it would be putting women at risk to allow "any man who believes or feels he's a woman" into bathrooms or changing rooms.
Her opinions have been criticised by members of the Harry Potter cast as well as the charities and organisations Mermaids, Stonewall, GLAAD and Human Rights Campaign. When asked how she felt that she "lost a whole audience" of Harry Potter fans when she spoke out, she replied, "I read my most recent royalty cheques and find the pain goes away pretty quickly."
Hogwart Legacy will be released for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.
