H3H3 Banned On YouTube After Video Marked "Too Dangerous To Watch”

Ethan Klein announced that the channel's Christmas podcast episodes would not be happening due to the ban

YouTube channel h3h3Productions, or more specifically its co-owner, Ethan Klein, hasn’t exactly been the most passive entity on YouTube in recent years. The channel has gained somewhat of a reputation for controversy - in the past month alone, Klein has been sued for defamation, and announced that the channel would be suing a Korean media company for a copyright breach… from a clip reacting to one of his videos.

Well, you don’t go through all that drama without catching some heat, and it would seem that some people may have hit back. On 20 December, the YouTuber took to Twitter to announce that h3h3’s Christmas podcasts wouldn’t be happening, due to a one-week ban on the channel.

“We just randomly got a strike because a video we reacted to over a year ago was deemed ‘too dangerous to watch’, they won’t even tell me what it was. Can’t upload for a week,” he wrote. “Ironically, the videos we watched can all still be found on YouTube as age-restricted, so I don't understand why the heavy hand for us? @TeamYouTube Please reconsider your decision, it has a tremendous negative affect on our business and community during an important time.”

Klein continued posting updates on Twitter, explaining that he had appealed to YouTube to reverse the decision, but was denied. He added that the video that they’d reacted to, which had been deemed too dangerous to watch, had been uploaded back in 2014 and is still available to watch on YouTube with 100,000 views.

A few hours ago though, he had a new update: “Just found out YouTube removed the strike. It’s too late to do the episode sadly, especially with the Covid scare but thank you everyone for caring so much, it makes the whole thing more bearable.”

The Covid scare he referred to is an outbreak which had led to his studio being contaminated, so ironically, no new videos could have been filmed until next year anyway. In response to the channel strike, though, a number of h3h3 fans pointed out that YouTube had recently made the decision to remove the dislike ratio to reduce harassment, yet it’s still possible to mass report videos, which is slightly contradictory. Regardless, it seems the creator will be back on the platform in the new year.
