Grand Theft Auto: London 1969 was technically an expansion pack for the original game, that took it to the capital of the UK during the swinging sixties, in what was a pretty cool thing to play when it dropped back in 1999.
As such, it has remained in the back of many fans minds as a potential location for a new GTA game, something which Rockstar Games co-founder Dan Houser recently put to bed by explaining how the location simply doesn't gel with what the game has become.
“We made a little thing in London 26 years ago, GTA: London, for the top-down one for the PS1. That was pretty cute and fun,” Houser said.
He then went on to explain that Rockstar “always decided there was so much Americana inherent in the IP, it would be really hard to make it work in London or anywhere else,” going on to say, “you needed guns, you needed these larger-than-life characters.”

That hasn't stopped eager players holding out some hope though, and a new concept might have just shown how exciting it could be with all of Rockstar's resources behind it.

GTA London Makes A Long Awaited Return
Over on Reddit, one user shared their concept footage for what a modern GTA: London would look like, only this time made entirely inside Forza Horizon 4. Though this obviously restricts us as the viewer to only seeing driving mechanics, it's more than enough to get tongues wagging at its potential.
Created by Vimeo user Influx66, it is visually stunning.
"Maybe The Crew 3 will include a map of London or Manchester; for God's sake The Getaway or The Getaway: Black Monday needs a remaster with a much, much larger overall explorable map/region," one comment read.
"I still remember the 2005/2006 tech demo for the cancelled Getaway 3 for the Sony PS3, then we were told it was moved to Sony PS4, then nothing happened for a long time and it was sadly put on hold like 8 Days, Coded Arms, Agent, Bully 2, a possible Thrasher: Skate or Destroy remake, sequel to Manhunt, State of Emergency, Starcraft: Ghost."
"I would love to play a GTA based in London!" another comment simply added.
The unfortunate fact of the matter is that a 3D GTA game based in 1960s London is almost certainly never going to happen, with all of the proverbial eggs in the GTA VI basket for the time being.
Hopefully, when that's all said and done, Rockstar takes us somewhere new for the next game.
