GTA 6 Studio Giving Us The Remake We've Been Begging For

We're tired of waiting

Remakes aren’t going anywhere anytime soon, but as long as studios are remaking games we actually want to play again, it’s all good.

Grand Theft Auto players are hoping for a few remakes later down the line after GTA VI has launched and while nothing is confirmed as of yet the latest rumours hint at another Rockstar IP being brought back from the dead.

Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall Of Max Payne are both rumoured to be getting full-on remakes next year.

This comes from studio Remedy’s latest earnings call which supposedly confirmed the game has been in production since August 2024 and was expected to take around two years to finish.

Remedy reportedly wants to double revenue earned in FY2024 by FY2027 which has led many to conclude Max Payne remakes are how it’ll be done.

If you’ve not had the pleasure of playing Max Payne you’ll have no doubt scene one, as they basically invented the bullet-time mechanic in games where players dive in slow motion as they blast out rounds from their weapons.

You may have also seen the infamous facial expression found on Max Payne’s character model, something actor Sam Lake hasn’t forgotten and regularly busts out at events.

For those who own an original copy of the game for Xbox you can actually play it on your Xbox Series X/S with the disc itself. You can also purchase the game digitally. It’s an ideal way to play as while no graphical changes are made to the game the fidelity is improved and the framerate boosted.

How Successful Would A Remake Be?

When remaking the Max Payne games Remedy wouldn’t need to reinvent the wheel and change everything about it.

Players will no doubt want to experience the gameplay exactly as it was so many years ago but with prettier graphics, and perhaps some redone dialogue. Maybe even an extra level would be a possibility.

Despite the controversy around it the Halo: Campaign Evolved remake is a pretty good example, as it’s giving Halo: Combat Evolved a makeover in addition to adding new weapons, vehicles and some new prequel missions. If a Max Payne remake did even half of that, I think we’d be golden.

Take all of this with a pinch of salt of course but with GTA VI launching next year Rockstar would probably benefit from something different launching in the interim between its next major project, so why not let Remedy bring back a classic?
