GTA VI getting delayed was a day to be remembered, as it caused so much chaos that fans have been fearful of a second delay ever since.
Of course the delay will have been for a good reason, as Rockstar Games is more than aware of the expectations people have for GTA VI and it’ll want to make sure it’s perfect for launch day.
That launch day is 26 May 2026, several months away, which is why many are anticipating a second delay before we get that.
Ex-Rockstar Games developers are confident the game will hit this new deadline though, believing the studio wouldn’t have offered a new date at all if it wasn’t sure the game will be ready by then.

This comes from Obbe Vermeij, who was a technical director at Rockstar North for many years and worked on several Grand Theft Auto titles, including GTA III, GTA: Vice City, and GTA: San Andreas.
Whenever he’s been asked on X if the release date for GTA VI is achievable he’s always had a positive outlook on the situation.
In a post responding to one such query Vermeij said “Rockstar had a free choice and picked May 26. They're confident. They'll make the final call ~5 months out.”
Obviously nothing is ever set in stone, but given his experience at Rockstar it’s promising to hear Vermeij so confident about the release date being achievable.

The only worrying thing about GTA VI at the moment, at least in my opinion, is we’re yet to see some actual gameplay. We’ve seen plenty of snippets from cutscenes and some cinematic shots but we haven’t seen the game in its rawest form yet.
Hopefully that changes later this year with a gameplay trailer. Given Rockstar’s track-record that’ll likely get dropped on a random week day when no one is expecting it.
