Yesterday saw the long-awaited nominations for 2024’s The Game Awards presented to us by Geoff Keighley and to nobody’s surprise, Grand Theft Auto VI got a mention.

It is almost December which means that The Game Awards will kick off the festive season and give us an opportunity to see which games we have all been loving this past year.

Check out the official trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI in the hopes it will summon the next one!

As expected, we reported on the nominations but to summarise, Sony stole the show thanks to Astro Bot and third-party exclusive Final Fantasy VII Rebirth receiving the most votes.

As a result, Sony Interactive Entertainment bagged itself 16 nominations with Square Enix and Xbox earning 12 each.

Game of the Year will be between the following: Astro Bot, Balatro, Black Myth: Wukong, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Metaphor: ReFantazio.

As well as categories for Game of the Year, there was also one dedicated to Most Anticipated Game and alongside Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Ghost of Yōtei, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Monster Hunter Wilds, there was one very obvious nominee.

Grand Theft Auto VI.

Expected to launch in fall of 2025, Rockstar’s latest title is perhaps one of the most anticipated games of all time so its appearance at The Game Awards is not shocking in the least.

So much so that fans soon took to r/GTA6 to discuss the news.

“Quite possibly the easiest win ever”, the top comment read.

Another said: “At this point, the category shouldn't even exist. Easiest win ever.”

There is no denying that the other games in the category deserve their places but it is hard to believe that any of them will beat GTA VI, especially considering that fans have been waiting for over 10 years since the last entry.

Either way, we will find out what happens when The Game Awards airs on 12 December.
