GTA 6 Map Staggers Gamers: 'They Aren't Exaggerating... It's a Whole State'

We are not ready

It was recently revealed by Rockstar itself that Grand Theft Auto VI is set to be the biggest game of all time.

It is something that perhaps we all already knew but hearing it from Rockstar itself, courtesy of a new job listing, is something else entirely.

Of course, Grand Theft Auto VI will be the biggest game of all time in two different ways: the sheer scale of its release will no doubt break multiple records and its open-world map is expected to knock its previous entries out of the water.

As one Reddit user recently said over on r/GTA6, “they aren’t exaggerating when they say it’s an entire state”.

The post comes alongside three map screenshots with two showing off Grand Theft Auto V’s open-world map and the final giving us a glimpse at what we know about Grand Theft Auto VI’s map.

“If you look at the GTA 5 map and remove the dead space, you will see that the real usable and dense parts of the map are fairly tiny compared to the entire thing,” the user explained.

“San Andreas feels so big not only because of the very well spaced out map, but also because it actually does have more density in the map compared to GTA 5.

GTA was and is incredible for its time given the limitations rockstar had with their hardware.”

In comparison, we have not yet seen the full confirmed map for Grand Theft Auto VI but thanks to two teaser trailers and an official website dedicated to the game, we have some idea of the areas and landmarks which will feature in the game.

We know that the state of Leonida will be included and iconic locations such as Vice City will return but with rumours of other states being accessible, it really does beg the question as to how big GTA VI’s map will actually be.

“It's not an exaggeration that they're calling it the state of Leonida,” the Reddit user continued.

“Between all the massive and dense cities, towns and smaller areas that will likely be in between (Vice City is almost twice as big as Los Santos).

This really is going to feel like their biggest map and game yet. And that's not even mentioning the amount of interiors that will be there (we have already seen five times more interiors than GTA 5).”

Despite it being just over eight months until Grand Theft Auto VI is finally released, there is still plenty we do not know about Rockstar’s next title.

However, there is no denying that its sheer scale will rival that of any video game that has come before.

“Are you telling me that the Los Santos part of V's map is just that Vice City part in VI's map? Yeah we're not ready,” user Pistoluislero wrote.

Another user agreed, adding, “Rockstar staff did their homework when it comes to creating a vibrant world for players to experience.”

Grand Theft Auto VI will release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on 26 May 2026.
