Despite the fact that Grand Theft Auto VI will be released in just under a year, there is still a lot we don’t yet know about the highly-anticipated release.

With just two trailers and an official website to go by, Rockstar Games is still keeping a lot of information close to its chest and as a result, it has been left to dedicated fans to put the missing pieces together.

That is especially the case when it comes to the potential open-world map for Grand Theft Auto VI, especially as it is supposed to be a lot larger than any previous Grand Theft Auto entry.

Although Rockstar has not yet given us an official look at the map, one group of dedicated fans have been working on the GTA VI Mapping Project and it has come a long way since its first draft back in September 2022.

Shared to r/GTAVI overnight, we can see the difference courtesy of an image of the most recent map which was created in May 2025 following the release of the second official GTA VI trailer.

“It’s been cool to see the scale of the mapping project increase with the amount of info the mapping community is finding and the info that Rockstar has put out,” the poster EliteFireBox wrote.

“The fact that it is possible the map could be even larger than what is currently known is crazy.”

We can definitely assume that the map will be even larger when GTA VI is released, especially as it is rumoured that Leonida will not be the only accessible state.

However, we can see that the mappers have included some areas of interest such as Ambrosia, Port Gelhorn, Mariana County, and Vice City, of course.

There seems to be a lot of islands off to the east with a mountainous range found in the north.

Although this is merely a fan project, it is safe to say that fans are already impressed and took the comments to share their thoughts.

“Trying not to be overhyped but it’s going to be the single greatest game ever made,” user Discosm said.

Another user also has high hopes, adding, “Seems like the map is gonna be similar to V.

Hopefully the smaller cities/towns are a lot bigger and more purposeful than V.”

Grand Theft Auto VI releases on 26 May 2026.
