After long last, yesterday saw us receive our first official GTA VI-related update since its first trailer dropped.

With Rockstar Games releasing the first Grand Theft Auto VI trailer back in December 2023, it has been over a year since we received an official update on how the highly-anticipated title is coming along.

Luckily, the silence has been broken courtesy of Take-Two Interactive who had its earnings call last night.

Thanks to Rockstar’s parent company, we now know that GTA VI is still scheduled to release some time in Fall 2025 which is reassuring considering rumours of a delay had been swirling online recently.

Now following on from Take-Two’s quarterly earnings call, CEO Strauss Zelnick has explained why an exact release date for Grand Theft Auto VI has not been announced.

In an interview with Variety ahead of the earning’s call, Zelnick had the following to say about the Fall 2025 release window:

“We’ve announced a pretty narrow window. So I think our view is that right now, that’s fine.

And then when it’s appropriate, of course, Rockstar is going to have more to say.”

However, in a separate interview with Vulture Beat, the Take-Two CEO had a different story to tell by revealing that GTA VI may indeed need to be pushed back, just like Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2 before it.

“It’s always a possibility in our business,” he explained.

“However, we’ve given the narrow window for upcoming titles. After all, it is February and we’ve outlined the release schedule through to the calendar year end.”

That’s not all.

Zelnick was back once again and spoke to IGN to reveal that the company “feels really good” about a Fall 2025 release.

“Look, there’s always a risk of slippage and I think as soon as you say words like absolutely, you jinx things…

We know that Rockstar seeks perfection. I never claim success before it occurs.

I’m fond of saying arrogance is the enemy of continued success, so we’re all running scared and looking over our shoulders and we know that the competition is not asleep. Our whole organization is super excited.”

Whether or not there will be a delay remains unclear to say the least but I am choosing to stay optimistic here and hoping that we will get our hands on GTA VI later this year.

  • No games should be worth £100, not even GTA 6
  • GTA VI's release could be a good thing for the video game industry
  • GTA 6 at $100 will not 'save' video games
  • GTA 6 is far from the most interesting game we're getting this year
