When it was first revealed back in December 2023, GTA 6 was originally teased with a vague “2025” window but no firm release date was confirmed.
Following that, we didn't get any further news regarding Grand Theft Auto 6 for nearly a year and a half, until Rockstar announced a delay to 2026 back in May.
The release date changed from 2025 to 26th May, 2026, giving us a concrete date to work from. But fans have been nervous about another potential delay pushing it back to the end of 2026.
After all, GTA 6 is one of the most anticipated games of all time, and a lot of fans fear that Rockstar’s strive to make it as polished and perfect as possible might result in another push back.

“September 2026 incoming,” mused one fan on X (formerly Twitter).
“They said it was on track for this year in February things can change very quickly,” another person wrote.
“We’ll see. Until it gets closer to may I'm not believing it,” another wrote. “Delays can happen even close to launch. And hopefully it's $70. They could easily charge more and it would still sell. But a lower price means more will be able to buy it vs if it was $80 or 100.”
Considering how widely anticipated this game is, fears about a delay are understandable. Rockstar’s last two games, Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA 5, are two of the most popular games of all time.

Despite both of those games receiving multiple delays, it’s worth noting that Rockstar doesn’t tend to delay its releases once a firm release date has been announced.
So I’m thinking it’s likely GTA 6 probably won't receive any more delays, if that's anything to go by.
As it stands, GTA 6 is scheduled to release on 26th May, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
