Grand Theft Auto VI’s delay is a tale of two halves; it was both expected and a complete and utter surprise.

Fair to say, many of us predicted that GTA VI would be delayed at some point.

After all, it’s something that’s happened to practically every Rockstar Games title in recent memory.

What we didn’t expect was a delay to be suddenly announced alongside a confirmed release date, with the game’s long-awaited second trailer dropping a few days later.

April was a wild ol’ month.

That’s exactly what happened though; Rockstar confirmed that GTA VI will now arrive on 26 May 2026, leaving behind its original fall 2025 window.

That second trailer then arrived, introducing us to Jason, Lucia, and this newly imagined version of Vice City.

To this day, I still find it hard to believe that 50% of the trailer comprises gameplay; it all looks so cinematic. Rockstar Games has well and truly cooked.

Well, with the dust now settled on the whole affair, Grand Theft Auto fans are reflecting on these latest updates and they’re very much glad that the game was delayed.

Why? Well, they wouldn’t have liked to have seen it end up like MindsEye.

“I’m glad GTA VI got delayed so we don’t have to worry about the game being a buggy mess like MindsEye and Cyberpunk,” wrote Reddit user SunGodLuffy6.

“I feel like if the game was released this year in the fall, the game probably would’ve been a buggy mess [like] what’s happening with MindsEye [...] I’m glad Rockstar [is] taking their sweet time and cooking [with] GTA VI,” they continued.

Plenty of fellow fans agreed.

“I’m disappointed when a game gets delayed but I would rather it does and releases well,” added DaddysFriend.

“I agree. The game would probably be fully complete and ready by fall 2025. The extra time until May 2026 would give them more than enough time to test it and fix any bugs,” commented Popular-Pause-6458.

User MogosTheFirst makes an interesting point though: “Just because the game got delayed doesn't mean it's not going to be buggy. Don't live in delusion that the game will be perfect.”

It’s true that we shouldn’t necessarily expect the game to be perfect, even if it has been delayed.

That being said, Rockstar has definitely placed itself in the best position to achieve perfection so that definitely stands GTA VI in good stead.

All we can really do is wait.
