GTA 6 Audience Split Over Brand New Car Theory

Interesting, but with a huge problem

The second delay to GTA VI means that we have a full year to sit around and speculate on what we might actually get when the final product does release. Now whilst we'd obviously prefer to have the full game in our hands already it is fun to poke and prod at all of the information we have so far.

The dedicated GTA community has touched on everything from the new water physics to potential returning characters with a ton of compelling theories that may or may not materialise on release day.

The next one to add to that list relates to the game’s cars and their similarity to real world automobiles this time around. GTA has never been afraid to push the boundaries when it comes to creating designs that are notably similar to real cars but the limited footage we have so far show that these vehicles are even more recognisable than ever before.

Licensed Cars Probably Isn't Sensible For GTA 6

Over on Reddit, one user put forward the theory that the next GTA game could have officially licensed vehicles as companies try to increase their brand exposure using the biggest video game in the world.

The cars we have seen in the trailer so far do not have official licensing though it is clear where their inspirations have been taken from.

The obvious potential issue with that theory is that GTA is a game built on parodying the real world. If they decided to suddenly start taking massive amounts of money for surreptitious product placement it would slightly undercut the overall tone of the game's humour.

Many of the comments in response were quick to point that out, with one saying: “GTA is a p*sstake of modern America, partnering with companies in the automotive industry is the complete antithesis of that, it isn't happening.

"I don't know what real world product placements in GTA you're talking about but any real world collaborations are generally with artists, which is a bit different.

"I couldn't think of anything worse Rockstar could do to kill my hype for this game than multi million dollar corporate partnerships."

Another fan found a major potential issue for official licensing deals, saying: “While promoting their cars in the biggest piece of media of all time seems like a great idea on paper - most car companies would not want their cars to be shown plowing into a bunch of civilians on Vice Beach.”

While it would be cool to drive a Ferrari round Vice City it really does feel like a secondary concern when compared with just getting the game out to us in the first place.

If GTA 6 is anywhere near as good as it's hyped up to be, we won't be worried about officially licensed cars for too long.
