Saturday, 6 December marks a momentous occasion in the GameStop calendar with the world’s largest retail gaming and trade-in destination set to host its ‘Trade Anything Day’ event.

Much like CEX in the U.K, GameStop is the one-stop-shop for all of your gaming or money needs by allowing customers both to trade-in their old items in exchange for new ones.

However, in an attempt to push that publicity, GameStop is set to host its most bizarre event yet which will see customers able to bring in the most random items in exchange for $5 store credit.

The ‘Trade Anything Day’ event kicks off on 6 December with the tagline “Bring Whatever, Get Store Credit! Some Questions Asked”.

With items limited to one per customer, what you decide to bring will have to be worth it, and for some goodwill over the festive period, any suitable items will be donated to charity.

So what items are eligible?

Although the GameStop event does claim that you will be able to trade “anything”, that is not the case for pretty obvious reasons.

As a result, the company has unveiled an extensive list of all of the items which will not be accepted and most of them make perfect sense.

For example, you will not be able to trade your loved one’s ashes, siblings or any other close relatives, hazardous waste or materials, weapons and ammo, dead or alive animals (although taxidermy is accepted), alcohol, tobacco and other drugs (legal or not), computers, televisions, stolen items, dirty clothes, counterfeit currency, nuclear bombs, full-size trains, planes and automobiles, dinosaurs, bones, and much more.

We Will be Staying on Top of This Story

By trading in a (suitable) item, you will be eligible for $5 in-store credit which is worth it if your item is practically worthless and could see you put it towards your next major purchase.

With the event taking place tomorrow, it remains to be seen what chaos will be caused as there is no denying that many people will not be reading the small print before packing up their dead nan.

However, for user mwarner811 over on r/GameStop, this promotional event could have been used for good.

“I do kinda like the idea of getting store credit for donating items,” they explained.

“GameStop could have advertised specific helpful items to trade in and tons of people would have donated.

School supplies would have been huge and brought in customers who likely have disposable income. Sucks it's basically chaos though.”

Nevertheless, we will be staying on top of this story, for our own amusement and yours.
