Vin Diesel, the star of the Fast and Furious films, has confirmed that the team behind the franchise are planning for the movies to come to an end. Although the universe of films will continue to expand, the main Fast and Furious series will wind down after two more films.
Talking to the Associated Press, Vin Diesel confirmed that after F9's release, which comes later this month on June 25, there will be two more films he will star in before his own story ends. When talking to journalists at a press junket the actor said, "every story deserves its own ending", and although "people are going to feel like it doesn't have to end, I think all good things should. There are reasons for a finale. I think this franchise has deserved it."

The Fast and Furious films have been coming out for two decades now as Vin Diesel starred in The Fast and Furious back in 2001. After Paul Walker's tragic death in 2013, many thought that the series would have to end without one of its stars present however Walker's character Brian O'Conner was written out of the future films as leaving the fast and furious life behind and moving on.

Though the mainline series is due to end in two more instalments (probably 2023, and 2024 according to Diesel) we've already seen how the Fast and Furious universe can be expanded. Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw was a spin-off starring Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and Jason Statham in their own adventure separate to the mainline series which went on to see international success. In future this is probably the format the Fast films will take, focusing on other characters that appeared in the main series to create their own over the top action extravaganzas for our viewing pleasure.
