Fans have been hoping for a while that Venom: Let There Be Carnage would really allow the symbiote to let its gooey hair down and really turn up the violence. 2018's Venom was, after all, a PG-13, which meant that Tom Hardy's debut as the lethal protector had to pull a fair few punches in the blood and gore department.
There was some expectation that the introduction of Carnage - a sadistic serial killer with all of the powers of Venom and none of the morality - would open the door for something a little... heavier. Unfortunately for those that were wishing that to be the case, it's now been confirmed that Venom: Let There Be Carnage will share the same PG-13 rating as its predecessor.

This news comes via the Motion Picture Association's latest bulletin, which confirms Venom: Let There Be Carnage has recieved a PG-13 rating for "intense sequences of violence and action, some strong language, disturbing material and suggestive references".

On the one hand, this is hardly surprising. It would be a bit of a slap in the face for younger fans if the sequel were suddenly to leap from a PG-13 to an R-rating, and Sony is no doubt invested in getting this Spider-Man spinoff to as large an audience as possible. Even so, there are some fans who feel Carnage won't be quite the threat he's supposed to be if he's shackled by an R-rating.

Personally, I'm sure director Andy Serkis is going to be able to do all sorts of disturbing things within the boundaries of the rating they received. We don't need to see Carnage hacking someone apart to know what he's doing, and I imagine this'll be one of those movies that absolutely pushes the rating it has to the limit. We'll find out for sure later this month.
