With the release of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition right around the corner, talk has predictably once again come back around to the in-development Grand Theft Auto VI.

Before the end of this year, Rockstar Games will re-release remastered versions of GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas with a ton of improvements to the visuals and gameplay of each title . But as excited as fans are to look back at those iconic games, there's always one eye on the future of the franchise.

Take a look at some of the best GTA V wins and fails below:

That's why fans have gotten so excited about a recent job listing for a VFX artist at Rockstar New England, a branch of Rockstar that previously assisted on GTA IV, GTA V, and Red Dead Redemption 2. While the listing doesn't specifically mention GTA VI by name, it's a safe bet that the New England team will once again be helping out with the upcoming title.

Assuming the listing does pertain to GTA VI and not some other mystery game, there are some very interesting details to be found. For a start, it sounds like this project is going to be a properly next-gen experience, with references to small details like "rain dripping from buildings" all the way up to "large scale destruction events like skyscrapers crashing to the ground".

"We control vast networks of data that drive many large systems," the ad continues. "Our technology is used to tie the world together; weapons create bullet impacts, vehicles kick up dirt and smoke and leave debris when they crash, objects get dirty when the fall in mud."

This all sounds incredible, obviously, and does tie in somewhat to previous GTA VI reports. Earlier this year industry insider Tom Henderson teased that the game would feature a "constantly evolving" open world that grows and changes over time. I could certainly see toppling skyscrapers fitting into that picture.

As always, take this with a pinch of salt for now until we know more. Fortunately, it's rumoured that Rockstar will finally drop the first teaser for GTA VI soon after the remastered trilogy releases, so we don't have very long at all to wait.
