The beautiful action-adventure RPG Black Myth: Wukong has been on our radar since its announcement earlier this year, and this new footage of the game is affirming that it is looking absolutely glorious.

Developed by Game Science, Black Myth is set to release for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC in 2023. Founded by former Tencent developers, the team is very small at the moment, but they had hoped to attract talent with the dazzling alpha gameplay that was released in August. While three years might seem like a long time to wait for a game that looks this good already, sometimes exceptionally ambitious games should make the most of the time that they have to perfect and polish the project to a sheen. Not naming names here at all. Nope. Not I.

Moving on, Black Myth: Wukong centres around the story of the 16th century classic Chinese novel, Journey To The West. Sun Wukong is the Monkey King, and as the playable protagonist, players will use over 70 abilities to best their enemies in exhilarating combat encounters. These abilities are inspired by the methods of transformation that Wukong learns over the course of the story, like shapeshifting, cloning himself, controlling the weather, and incredible agility.

In the game, he transforms into a cicada to sneak past enemies, so there might be multiple ways to approach situations depending on your preference. Here's hoping that we'll get to use a handful of those other abilities, too, in combination with the magical black iron staff which either extends or shrinks to become different weapons. In one part of the gameplay, we see the character sweep an entire army off their feet with the staff, showing that Wukong is a force to be reckoned with.

Following the endless praise for the game in its current state, Game Science said that it would "hide" to keep its nose to the grindstone and deliver a game worthy of the hype. Though it clarified that updates on the game's progress will come in time, new footage has been found on Black Myth: Wukong's official website. It's very chill and vibey, and focuses on the tranquil environments that Wukong will traverse in his journey.

Thanks to YouTuber SnazzyAI, the 1080p and 30fps footage has been upscaled to 4K with 60fps, offering us a glimpse of what the game will look like on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X. You're definitely able to see the influence of Souls-like games on Black Myth: Wukong in these scenes; a gnarled tree reaching into the fog, or the flickering light of a fire illuminating a very scary axe embedded in the ground. Though these clips are short, it's obvious that there's a lot to look forward to from Game Science, and we'll have our ear to the ground for any announcements.
