Warner Bros and NetherRealm Studios today officially announced Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath, the series' first ever story expansion pack.

Aftermath will pick up immediately where the events of the base game left off. "Fire God Liu Kang, the new keeper of time and protector of Earthrealm, must now enlist the help of unlikely allies and familiar foes to forge a new history as the fate of two worlds hang in the balance," reads the official press release from Warner Bros.

When Liu Kang defeated Kronika at the end of Mortal Kombat 11, he destroyed her crown - which, as it turns out, is the only way the Earthrealm protectors can go back in time and un-do the darkest timeline they currently find themselves in. Who should show up claiming to be the only one capable of retrieving the crown? None other than Shang Tsung. Check it out below, or here.

In another story trailer - which you can see below - we see returning characters Sheeva and Fujin facing off with Shang Tsung against baddies Baraka and Erron Black. Raiden's brother and God of Wind, Fujin will use his mastery of the blowy stuff to battle his foes, while as the half-human half-dragon Queen of the ancient Shokan race, Sheeva is able to get up close and personal with all four of her arms, presumably for some bone-crunching brutalities.

If that weren't enough, law-enforcing unit RoboCop will be appearing as a guest character, standing alongside other '80s movie icons like The Terminator, Predator and Jason Voorhees. Using the voice and likeness of Peter Weller, who portrayed the character in RoboCop and RoboCop 2, RoboCop will have an arsenal of weaponry at his disposal to deal with the rule-breakers of the Mortal Kombat universe.

As well as the new story and characters, Aftermath will include the return of fan favourite Dead Pool and Soul Chamber arenas; stage Fatalities which will allow players to use their environments to finish off opponents; and Friendships which can be used instead of Fatalities, to spread some love around the battlefield.

Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath will be releasing on May 26th on PS4, Xbox One, Windows PC, Nintendo Switch and Stadia, though you won't be able to pre-order the expansion on Google's game-streaming service.
